DownCity Designers-4.jpg

In the picture, I see a group of hard working youth coming together to build an innovative play pavilion to improve society. The play pavilion will offer shade, seating, storage, playground toys, and planters. I was drawn to this artwork because of the creativeness and togetherness that was present. I saw a group of young people coming together to complete one common goal. While researching the program, I noticed all of the bright colors and different shapes in the projects.

"We’re improving cities by inviting neighbors to imagine and create better futures, using the tools of design.  We believe in the power of design to solve problems, and in the power of young people to change the world. Our youth programs and community design dialogues are making urban neighborhoods safer, healthier, and more livable, while empowering residents to become agents of change."

Here is an image of the finished play pavilion:

And here are other examples of their work:

  1. Thanks for this post Ryanna. I've been thinking about the fact that so many in our class were drawn to this image, and I wonder if part of that is because it captures the youth-artist/makers in action. As you say, it shows hardworking youth coming together to make change! P.s. Love the way you are playing with font/ color/ highlighting
